 British Triathlon Coach Education Minimize

Coaching is at the heart of triathlon performance at every level from novice children and adults participating in their first event, through to preparing athletes for the Olympic Games. Coaches are vital to the success of triathlon in the UK. British Triathlon as the governing body has a duty to ensure that coaches are supported in their activities and are given the opportunity to further their own personal development.

The British Triathlon Coach Education Programme has been produced in conjunction with Sports Coach UK to improve the quality and consistency of triathlon coaching at all levels throughout the UK. The course content has been developed in line with the UK Coaching Certificate (UKCC). The programme currently consists of three levels of award, catering for basic skills for groups through to developing performance training for individual athletes. These are:

  • Level 1 Assistant Coach
  • Level 2 Session Coach
  • Level 3 Development Coach

To ensure high quality and consistent delivery, all courses are delivered by trained British Triathlon Coach Education Tutors, who have a wealth of triathlon and coaching knowledge and expertise. Support for coaches is also provided at a local level by the Triathlon London Regional Programme Managers and Triathlon London's Coaching Coordinator, James Beckinsale.

Full details of all regions' British Triathlon Coach Education Courses can be found on the British Triathlon website. Below is a list of Level 1 & 2 courses that are being held in the Triathlon London region. Level 3 courses are delivered nationally and should be booked through the British Triathlon website.

Become a Triathlon London Regional Development Coach Minimize

With Triathlon being one of the country’s fastest growing sports we are currently working to build a database of current and interested coaches to help with a number of projects that we are looking at geared around the overall development of Triathlon in the London region.

Projects may range from supporting general Triathlon taster sessions, sessions aimed specifically at junior athletes through to more advanced sessions with experienced athletes to aid performance.

Coaches could be from a Triathlon background or have expertise in a particular discipline (Swim, Bike, Run) with recognised coaching qualifications from their sport. Coaches will be paid for any sessions they coach according to experience which as a guide based on Triathlon coaching qualifications would be at the following levels:

BTF Level 1 Coach: £15 Per Hour
BTF Level 2 Coach: £20 per Hour
BTF Level 3 Coach: £25 Per Hour

All payment will however be discussed with coaches before undertaking any sessions to ensure we have a clear recognition of the experience the coach is bringing to the session. In order to undertake any sessions all coaches would need to hold a current British Triathlon CRB check and we will be happy to discuss the process for this with you when you let us know of your interest in being considered for coaching.

If you would like to be considered for opportunities which may arise in the London region please complete the Coaching Questionnaire form and we will collate details and contact you when suitable opportunities arise in your location/area of expertise. When completed, forms should be returned to stewartward@britishtriathlon.org or please contact us for further information. We look forward to hearing from you.
