IRC London Team do us proud in Wales
On 12th September, London's 14-strong IRC Team journeyed to Wales to compete in this year's Inter-Regional Championships at Parc Bryn Bach. Their day started with an early morning swim at Princes Lake before boarding the coach to Wales. The coach trip formed an important part of the team-bonding exercise, with a general scrum for seats at the back of the coach. After checking into their accommodation, the team headed over to the triathlon venue to register and familiarise themselves with the course. The day was rounded off with a team dinner back at the hotel, followed by an early night in preparation for the next day's racing.
Sunday morning heralded an early start, and after a healthy breakfast, our team were back on the coach for the 20 minute trip to the race site. Our London athletes were up against some stiff competition from the 10 other regions, competing in waves for Tristar 2, Tristar 3 and Youth, boys & girls, throughout the morning. The swim was open water for the first time, followed by a fairly technical and hilly draft-legal bike course on closed roads and finished off with a run in the Park. Parc Bryn Bach proved a great venue, and thankfully the weather was glorious. Our London team put on some gutsy performances and achieved great results. Podium places went to Sky Draper who took gold in the Tristar 3 girls, with a bronze for both Armanni Antoine-Chager and Luke Penney (also Tristar 3). Overall the London IRC team finished 7th on leader board. For full results, click here: IRC Results.
This was a great experience for all our young athletes who did the region proud in their matching London kit. Our thanks also to James & Emma Beckinsale for managing all the arrangements and motivating our team to perform at their best

Triathlon London Junior Series 2009: Rules & IRC Qualifying
|
 |
|
The Triathlon London Tristar & Youth Series for the 2009 season consists of 6 races as detailed above. The series will act as both a competition in its own right, and will also play a major selection role for athletes wishing to represent Triathlon London at the 2009 IRC Championships to be held on 12th September 2009 at Bryn Bach Parc in Tredegar, Wales.
Eligibility: The Series is open to all athletes, irrespective of residence or club. There is no requirement to either live in the Triathlon London region, or represent a Triathlon London club (however, note eligibility criteria below for IRC team selection).
Series Entry: All athletes entering the series races will automatically be included, free of charge, in the Series ranking. Athletes may choose not to be included in the ranking should they wish by contacting the Series Coordinator, John Levison by email: juniorseries@triathlonlondon.org.
Series Scoring:
There are 6 races in the series and an athlete's best 3 results will count towards their final series score. Scoring for the series will be as undertaken in 2008. In each event, for each Age Group & Gender, the first athlete, irrespective of whether they are a London Series participant will be awarded 1000 points. All other athletes in that event will then receive points based upon their finishing time, relative to the winner. For example, if winning time = 20 minutes, and athlete A finishes in 22 minutes, they will receive 909 points (20/22 x 1000 = 909). Athlete B who finishes in 23:20 will receive 857 points (20:00/23:20 x 1000 = 857). Every second counts. (Scoring will be calculated to unlimited decimal places, though ‘shown’ on the ranking to 2 decimal places, for presentation purposes).
Should there be a tie for first place in the series, joint first place prizes will be awarded.
Series standings will be published as soon as possible after each series event on this page (see right hand results box). Any questions, queries, amendments, corrections, etc should be addressed in the first instance to John Levison (juniorseries@triathlonlondon.org).

- James Beckinsale, Triathlon London Regional Academy Coach
The Triathlon London IRC selection policy for 2009 is as follows:

Once published, there will be a 48 hour window for appeal. Appeals should be made to the Triathlon London Regional Development Manager, Jon Train (07739 526558 or jontrain@britishtriathlon.org).
