British Triathlon in partnership with Lagardère/Upsolut will hold a leg of the inaugural ITU Dextro Energy Triathlon World Championship Series on the weekend of 15th/16th August 2009 in Hyde Park. The series consists of seven World Championship events worldwide and a Grand Final, all featuring live television. A record $2million will be at stake in the battle to become ITU’s 2009 world champion.
The weekend will see a festival of sport in Hyde Park. The best triathletes from around the world will race head to head over the Olympic distance in the ITU event for the £125,000 prize purse. The women's elite race will take place at 10:00hrs, with the men's race at 13:10hrs on Saturday 15th August. There will also be youth (18:45hrs), junior (07:00hrs) and paratriathlon (16:30hrs) races and an expo (09:00-18:00 Sat & Sun), in addition to an Age Group Sprint Race on Sunday 16th August from 09:00hrs. The event will require a minimum of 300 volunteers, and Triathlon London are keen to enlist the services of triathletes and clubs within the region to help the event run smoothly, particularly those with previous event experience.
